Narcotango

Also known as: Electrotango, Neo-tango ensemble

About

Narcotango is an Argentine electronic tango orchestra formed in 2003 in Buenos Aires, led and primarily composed by bandoneón player Carlos Libedinsky. The ensemble blends traditional tango instrumentation with electronic production and sampling, creating electrotango—a contemporary fusion influenced by trip-hop acts such as Massive Attack and Portishead. The core lineup includes Libedinsky (bandoneón, keyboards), Mariano Castro (keyboards, samplers), Marcelo Toth (guitar), Fernando del Castillo (drums, percussion), and Juan Pablo Maicas (bass). Since their formation, they have conducted over twenty international tours across the Americas and Europe, receiving Latin Grammy nominations in 2009 and 2010 and Gardel Prize nominations in 2009. Buenos Aires’ legislature recognized them as “Personalidad Destacada de la Cultura” in 2014. Narcotango’s discography spans studio albums (Narcotango, 2003; Narcotango vol. 2, 2006; Limanueva, 2010; Cuenco, 2013) and live recordings, establishing them as pioneering figures in the contemporary electrotango movement.
