Also known as: Narcotango

Biography

Carlos Libedinsky is an Argentine composer, producer, and bandoneón player born in 1961 in Buenos Aires. Before establishing himself in tango music, he explored diverse genres including rock, pop, blues, and medieval music. Since 1986, Libedinsky has directed Tademus, a music school in Buenos Aires. In 1992, he co-founded the tango duo Los Mareados, where he also composed. His most significant contribution to contemporary tango came with the founding of Narcotango in 2003, a pioneering electrotango ensemble that merges traditional tango with electronic elements and global influences. Narcotango earned Latin Grammy nominations (2009, 2010) and the Gardel Award nomination (2010), and was recognized as an Outstanding Cultural Personality by the Buenos Aires Legislature in 2013. With collaborator Mariano Castro, Libedinsky released acclaimed albums including Narcotango (2003), Narcotango 2 (2006), Limanueva (2010), and Cuenco (2013). In 2018, he relocated to Berlin and pursued solo projects, including #Fueye (2018) and Cielo (2020). Narcotango resumed activities with Narcotango Rouge (2022) and Anarcolonga (2023), the latter earning the Tango Siglo XXI Award in 2024. His work exemplifies the evolution of tango in the 21st century, blending electronic production with instrumental virtuosity.
