Dúo Fuertes Varnerín

Also known as: Dúo Fuertes-Varnerín

About

Dúo Fuertes Varnerín was formed in 2003 in Buenos Aires by two vocalists trained at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory with the explicit mission to revive the vocal duo tradition characteristic of 1940s tango. Led by Agustín Fuertes (vocals, guitarrón) and Ariel Varnerín (vocals, guitar), the duo performed primarily in the repertoire of classical tangos associated with the golden age, drawing particularly from arrangements by Alfredo de Angelis and Aníbal Troilo. From 2004 onward, they became permanent performers at Complejo Tango, a Buenos Aires restaurant-concert venue, and later collaborated with Cuarteto El Caburé, performing at major festivals including the Buenos Aires Tango Festival and the Campeonato Mundial de Tango (2006–2007). They were recognized by Buenos Aires’s Cultural Secretary in the 2008 Notable Bars competition. The duo recorded two albums—Tangos Valses y Milongas a Dos Voces (2007/2014) and Uno y Uno (2014)—both released through Los Años Luz. After fifteen years of continuous performance, recordings, and touring throughout Europe, the duo announced its dissolution around 2018 as members pursued individual projects.

The Todotango biography states the first album was released in 2007, while Spotify and Apple Music list 2014 as the release date; this likely represents an original 2007 release with a 2014 re-release or remaster.
