Biography
Agustín Fuertes is a contemporary Argentine tango singer known for his refined vocal interpretation of classic tango repertoire. Born in 1977, Fuertes began his professional career at age 25 in Mexico City in 2002, performing Gardel-style numbers and accompanying himself on guitar at the Argentine dinner show “La Biela.” Upon returning to Buenos Aires, he served as principal vocalist for “Complejo Tango” from 2004 to 2008, while simultaneously forming the Fuertes-Varnerín Duo in 2003 with fellow Conservatorio Manuel de Falla student Ariel Varnerín. The duo, dedicated to reviving the characteristic vocal duo tradition of 1940s tango, performed extensively at major tango venues and international festivals. After 15 years of collaboration with the duo, Fuertes released his acclaimed debut solo album “Charlo” (2020) featuring Orquesta Victoria under the direction of Alejandro Drago, paying homage to compositions by tango legend Charlo. His 2024 album “Tango Velvet” continued his exploration of classic tango standards, solidifying his position as an important contemporary voice in Argentine tango performance.
Sources note: Tu Pálida Voz release date: sources give both 1942 and 1943 as composition year. The song appears on Agustín Fuertes’ 2020 Charlo album as an interpretation of this classic Charlo-Manzi composition.
