Charles Wimer

Biography

Charles Wimer was an English-language vocalist and guitarist who recorded with Argentine bandoneón player and conductor Osvaldo Fresedo’s orchestra in 1933. Joining Fresedo’s ensemble on March 16, 1933, at the beginning of the orchestra’s second period on the Victor label, Wimer performed as guitarist on the instrumental “El espiante” and accompanying pieces. Later in June 1933, Wimer stepped forward as a vocalist, singing English-language renditions of fox-trots including “Mirándote” (Looking at You) and “Por favor” (Please), both recorded on June 6, 1933. These recordings represent a notable chapter in the Fresedo orchestra’s prolific early 1930s output, a period marked by refined arrangements and diverse vocal talents.

Sources note: Sources disagree on composer attribution for “Por favor”—one source credits it to Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin, while composer information is unclear in other sources. “Mirándote” is consistently attributed to Osvaldo Fresedo in available documentation.
