Tango x 2 Company

Tango x 2 Company is an Argentine tango dance and music ensemble founded in 1988 by Miguel Ángel Zotto and Milena Plebs, two former principal stars of Broadway’s Tango Argentino. The company’s name, pronounced “tango por dos” (tango for two), represents the intimate collaborative dialogue between dance and music. Following their inaugural theatrical production, Tango X2 Homenaje a Gardel in 1990, the ensemble achieved international acclaim with Perfume de Tango, which premiered at London’s prestigious Sadler’s Wells Theatre in 1993. The company subsequently toured the world, presenting multiple productions including Una noche de tango and Z X2 Tango Sinfónico (2000), the latter performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and pianist Pablo Siegler. The ensemble was anchored by singer Roxana Fontan and the musical direction of bandoneonist Daniel Binelli (1990–1997). Throughout its history, Tango x 2 Company received numerous international awards, including the María Ruanova Prize from Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (1991), the Gino Tani Prize in Rome (1998), and recognition as Runner-up Best Foreign Dance Company by London’s Dance Critics’ Circle (2007). The company disbanded in 2009, leaving a lasting legacy in the theatrical presentation of Argentine tango worldwide.
