Tango Bardo

Also known as: Tango Bardo Cuarteto Tipico

About

Tango Bardo is a contemporary cuarteto típico tanguero ensemble formed in Buenos Aires in 2013, playing in the style of Juan D’Arienzo’s classic orchestras. The group comprises violinist and producer Lucas Furno, bassist Juan Miguens, bandoneonist Santiago Polimeni, pianist Lorena Donvito, and singer Roberto Minondi. Known for their earthy, percussive approach emphasizing the raw “mugre” (grit) and “yeites” (musical licks) of tango instrumentation, Tango Bardo has become one of the most popular tango ensembles among dancers and has performed extensively across Europe, Asia, and the Americas since their debut at La Viruta milonga. Their repertoire spans traditional 1920s-era tangos to tango nuevo, drawing from composers including Pugliese, D’Arienzo, Di Sarli, Troilo, and Piazzolla. The ensemble has released numerous albums including Del sur (2015), Rústico (2017), Mugre (2020), D’arienzo Anticrisis (2024), and Disarliana (2024).

Sources note: Formation year: sources give either 2013 or 2014. Release dates show minor discrepancies across platforms (e.g., Del sur recorded 2015 but released 2017 on some platforms). Discography counts vary across sources (5-11 albums depending on source and what is counted as official release vs. single/EP).
