Sexteto Fantasma

About

Sexteto Fantasma is an Argentine contemporary tango ensemble formed in 2012 in Buenos Aires by guitarist and composer Guido Iacopetti. Originally established as Cuarteto Fantasma, the group expanded to its full sexteto format in 2013 with the addition of bandoneón and trumpet, distinguishing itself through innovative fusion of traditional tango with unconventional instrumentation and diverse musical influences including jazz, rock, and Latin American rhythms. Emerging from La Ventanita de Arrabal—a weekly milonga in the Almagro neighborhood that became a cornerstone of contemporary Buenos Aires tango—Sexteto Fantasma has established itself as a leading voice in the new generation of tango orchestras. The ensemble’s sound is characterized by rich polyphonic arrangements and dynamic interplay between electric guitar, piano, bandoneón, trumpet, and double bass, anchored by vocalist Rodrigo Perelsztein. Since 2014, the group has released four studio albums: La Ventanita de Arrabal (2014), Fuego Bohemio (2018), Noches Milongueras (2019), and La inevitable tentación de ir a contramano (2024). The ensemble has performed extensively throughout Argentina and completed four European tours spanning more than ten countries, earning recognition including a 2024 Premio Tango Siglo XXI award and a 2025 Latin Grammy nomination.
