Sexteto Cristal

About

Sexteto Cristal is a contemporary tango ensemble founded around 2010, based in Hamburg and Berlin, Germany. The sextet comprises violinists Maja Hunziker and Rupert Dintinger, bandoneonists Christian Gerber and Michael Dolak, pianist Fernando Bruguera, and double bassist Anna-Maria Huhn. The ensemble regularly collaborates with Argentine vocalists including Guillermo Rozenthuler, Martin Troncozo, and Carlos Roulet. Sexteto Cristal specializes in reviving and reinterpreting the canonical tango standards of the golden age, with particular emphasis on danceability and accessibility for milonga audiences. Their approach reflects the melodious phrasing, dramatic articulation, and rhythmic power of classic orchestral tango while maintaining contemporary musicianship free of superfluous virtuosity. Since their inception, the group has gained recognition at tango festivals across Germany and Europe as a modern dance orchestra, releasing albums including Viento del norte (2018) and Loca de amor (2019). The ensemble exemplifies how contemporary European musicians can authentically honor and sustain the tango tradition through disciplined interpretation of underperformed compositions.
