About

Quinteto Ángel is a Berlin-based Argentine tango ensemble founded in 2001 by bandoneón player Christian Gerber and pianist Frank Schulte. The quintet features the classic instrumental lineup of bandoneon, violin, cello, double bass, and piano, reviving the legendary Orquesta Típica formation from Buenos Aires. The ensemble’s five founding and regular members include Bernhard von der Gabelentz (violin), Samuel Lutzker (cello), and Rodolfo Paccapelo (double bass), with guest cellist Johannes Henschel appearing regularly since 2008.

Known for their versatile repertoire spanning traditional Argentine tango to Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Nuevo, Quinteto Ángel has earned recognition as one of Germany’s most acclaimed tango ensembles. Their music balances virtuoso chamber performance with exceptional danceability, a quality emphasized repeatedly by festival organizers and critics. Over their two decades of activity, the group has performed at major tango festivals and concert venues throughout Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, Estonia, Scotland, Poland, and Slovenia. The ensemble has released five albums through La Casa Del Tango Berlin label, demonstrating their commitment to both classical tango interpretation and contemporary arrangements. They have also collaborated with Argentine vocalist Sergio Gobi on several recordings.

Sources note: Danzarin release date appears as both 2005 (Spotify) and 2006 (AllMusic/Apple Music). The official website and most sources reference four main albums, but Spotify shows five albums with Danzarin as the earliest release.
