About

Orquesta Típica La Furca is an Argentine tango orchestra founded in late September 1999 as a cooperative project of young, classically trained musicians at the iconic intersection of San Juan and Boedo in Buenos Aires. Under the direction of bandoneonist Federico Vázquez, the ensemble pursues orchestral tango traditions of the 1940s and 1950s, with the stylistic approach of maestro Osvaldo Pugliese as their primary inspiration and point of departure. The orchestra balances interpretations of canonical tango compositions with original arrangements created by ensemble members, including contributions from cellist Federico Giriboni. Since its formation, La Furca has performed regularly at significant Buenos Aires venues and toured Argentine provinces, appearing at the VI Buenos Aires Tango Festival, the II World Tango Dance Championship, and the Young Tango Festival in Bariloche. Their debut album, De Puro Guapo (2002), captured 14 tangos recorded over October and November 2002. A live recording, En Vivo en el Club del Vino, was released in late 2006. The orchestra represents the broader revival of young tango orchestras that emerged during the 1990s and 2000s in Argentina, continuing the legacy of orchestral tango for contemporary audiences.
