Orquesta Típica Andariega

About

Orquesta Típica Andariega is an Argentine tango ensemble founded in September 2009 in Buenos Aires by Italian-born double bass player and composer Luigi Coviello. Based in the Boedo neighborhood, the orchestra specializes in milonguero tango—the danceable style of the 1940s—reimagined with contemporary compositional energy. The ensemble features three violins, three bandoneons, piano, double bass, and vocals by Marisol Martinez, whose interpretations emphasize traditional milonguero phrasing. Coviello serves as primary composer and arranger, beginning with original compositions on the 2014 album Andiamo. Between 2012 and 2018, the orchestra conducted six European concert tours, performing in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Latvia, Switzerland, Austria, and Greece. Their title composition “Avanti” (2019) was awarded Best New Danceable Argentine Tango at the 2018 Festival Internacional de Tango and Best Music Video at Festival y Mundial de Tango 2020. The sixth album, Santo Milonguero (2025), consists entirely of original Coviello compositions. The ensemble bridges classical tango tradition with modern composition while preserving the rhythmic and danceable essence of milonguero tango.
