About

Orquesta Silencio is a contemporary European tango orchestra founded in 2001 by pianist and arranger Roger Helou, a Buenos Aires-born musician (b. 1978) who studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. The ensemble brings together musicians of diverse international backgrounds—from Argentina, Uruguay, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the United States, and Cuba—creating a distinctly cosmopolitan tango sound rooted in classic styles of Di Sarli, Biagi, and Pugliese. Based across eight European cities (Basel, Zurich, Lyon, Freiburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Madrid, Stockholm), the orchestra has become recognized as one of the three finest tango formations in Europe. The ensemble’s philosophy emphasizes authentic, dance-oriented arrangements; their stated mission is “to play for dancers.” Since its formation, Orquesta Silencio has recorded five studio albums—Silencio (2005), Silencio en las Almas (2009), Todo, Menos la Canción (2014), Placer y Locura (2020), and Raro (2026)—alongside a live DVD. The group has performed extensively at European tango festivals and milongas, establishing itself as a leading contemporary voice in European tango music.
