About

Orquesta Romántica Milonguera is a contemporary Argentine tango orchestra founded in March 2016 by pianist-director Tomás Regolo and violinist Lucas Furno. Based in Buenos Aires, the ensemble debuted at the Fiesta de Orquestas Milongueras with the goal of revitalizing typical orchestras in the milonguero circuit. The orchestra comprises three violins (including Lucas Furno and Sara Ryan), multiple bandoneonists (Anabel Fasanelli, Nicolás Tognola, Oscar Yemha, Ricardo Badaracco, Roberta Maegli), double bass (Juan Miguens), and singers including Marisol Martinez, Roberto Minondi, Antonella Alfonso, and Marco Bellini.

The group achieved international recognition in 2017 through viral YouTube videos of tango covers, particularly “Poema” (which accumulated 3–5 million views) and “Invierno,” establishing them as significant players in contemporary tango. In 2019, they won the Premios Tango award for Best Tango Orchestra. The orchestra’s musical mission centers on modernizing tango for contemporary audiences while honoring the golden-age aesthetic of the 1960s–1970s. Beyond traditional tangos and waltzes, they have recorded covers of artists including The Beatles, Sandro, and Gilda, releasing four full-length albums and six or more EPs. They have toured extensively across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, performing in venues from intimate milongas to major concert halls.

Sources note: Minor date variation: sources cite orchestra debut as both “March 2016” and simply “2016”; the official first album/self-titled album was released in early 2017 (14 Feb 2018 per Last.fm, but April 24, 2017 per Bandcamp). “Poema” video view counts reported as “3.3M” in early sources and “3–5M” or “5M” in later references—growth over time rather than conflict.
