Horacio Salgán

The Horacio Salgán Orchestra was an influential Argentine tango ensemble led by pianist and composer Horacio Salgán (1916–2016). Salgán formed his first orchestra in 1944, initially rejected for its bold, “dissonant” sound that pushed against traditional tango aesthetics. The group remained active until 1947, then reformed in 1950 with renewed commercial success, becoming a defining ensemble of the golden age of tango.
