Fulvio Salamanca y su Orquesta
Also known as: Orquesta Fulvio Salamanca, Sexteto Fulvio Salamanca
About
Fulvio Werfiel Salamanca (1921–1999) was an Argentine pianist and bandleader who became known as one of the finest tango pianists of his era. Born in Santa Fe province, he began musical studies at age six and joined the Juan D’Arienzo orchestra in 1940, where he remained for seventeen years, gaining formative experience with D’Arienzo’s demanding arrangements. After leaving D’Arienzo in 1957, Salamanca formed his own orchestra featuring musicians including bandoneonists Eduardo Cortti and Julio Esbrez and vocalist Armando Guerrico, recording for Odeón (1957–1963), Philips, and Music Hall (1964–1969), with a Japan tour in 1975. His compositions include the tangos “Matraca,” “Viento sur,” and “Muñeco saltarín.”
