About
Electrocutango is an electrotango ensemble founded in 2003 in Oslo, Norway by composer and pianist Sverre Indris Joner. The group blends electronic production with traditional tango instrumentation—bandoneón, violin, double bass, and drums—creating a distinctly Scandinavian interpretation of tango music. Electrocutango gained international prominence through their 2005 collaboration with the theatrical production TanGhost, an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts choreographed by Argentinian dancer Pablo Verón, which won the Norwegian Edvard Award for Best Music. The production toured extensively from 2006 across Europe and Asia, including performances in Stockholm, Prague, Helsinki, Shanghai, and Beijing. The ensemble has released three studio albums: Felino (2004), Adrenalina (2011), and Contrastes (2021). In 2011, during performances in Buenos Aires, Joner received the honorary title of Academico Correspondiente from Argentina’s Academia Nacional de tango. Electrocutango remains active, maintaining a distinctive fusion aesthetic that situates tango within contemporary electronic and experimental music contexts.
Sources note: Felino release year: MusicBrainz and Wikipedia document the original release as 2004 on CD in Norway, but Spotify lists it as 2009 (possibly a reissue date or metadata inconsistency).
