About

El Cachivache is an Argentine tango ensemble founded in 2008 by guitarist Vito Venturino and pianist Pablo Montanelli, who initially based themselves in Spain before returning to Buenos Aires to establish the band. The ensemble has achieved international recognition for their distinctive “Tango Punk” style, which blends traditional tango with rock, jazz, electronic elements, and punk aesthetics. Based in Buenos Aires, the group maintains a weekly presence at La Cachivacheria Milonga in Palermo and performs approximately 90 shows annually, having toured more than 40 countries across three continents with over 1,000 cumulative performances. The current lineup includes Vito Venturino (guitar), Adriano De Vita (bandoneon), Andy Ferrari (piano), Pacha Mendes (double bass), and Gianina Druta (vocals). The ensemble is celebrated for their energetic, theatrical performances combining humor with musical innovation, respecting tango traditions while embracing contemporary elements. Their discography spans twelve studio albums released between 2010 and 2024, including “Derecho a la quijada” (2010), “Tango Punk Vol. I” (2016), and “Justo a Tempo” (2024). El Cachivache was showcased at WOMEX19 in Finland and featured on Putumayo Records’ world music catalogue, establishing themselves as leading innovators in contemporary tango.

Sources note: Sources differ slightly on the early timeline: Some accounts indicate the band was founded in 2008 and spent initial years performing in Spain during Argentina’s economic crisis before fully basing operations in Buenos Aires around 2013. The current lineup has evolved significantly since the band’s formation; founding members Vito Venturino and Pablo Montanelli remain, but other positions have changed.
