Domingo Federico y su orquesta típica
Also known as: Orquesta Domingo Federico, Domingo Federico Y Su Orquesta Típica
About
Domingo Federico y su orquesta típica was formed on June 16, 1943, when Argentine bandoneonist Domingo Federico launched his own ensemble following early work with Juan Canaro and Miguel Caló’s orchestras. Based in Buenos Aires, the orchestra became known for its warm, lyrical interpretations of tango classics and original compositions, anchored by Federico’s sensitive bandoneón playing. The ensemble featured acclaimed vocalists Carlos Vidal, Oscar Larroca, Mario Bustos, Enzo Valentino, and Armando Moreno, each bringing distinctive styles to Federico’s rich compositional catalog. Between 1944 and the early 1970s, the orchestra recorded extensively for RCA Víctor, Embassy, and Rosafón labels, introducing memorable works co-written with poet Homero Expósito including Percal, Yuyo verde, A bailar, and Tristezas de la calle Corrientes. Active during tango’s golden age, the ensemble contributed significantly to the era’s melodic sophistication. Following his relocation to Rosario in 1957, Federico continued leading smaller ensembles and founded the Tango Youth Orchestra at the National University of Rosario in the 1990s.
Sources note: No significant conflicts found across sources. Dates for orchestra formation (June 16, 1943) and leader’s death (April 6, 2000) are consistent. One source mentioned 1993 vs. 1994 for founding the Youth Tango Orchestra at UNR, but these likely refer to different stages of establishment. Tango Íntimo recording year listed as both 1961 and 1966 in different sources; 1966 appears more authoritative in multiple sources.”,
“notes_for_human”:”This orchestra is primarily documented through its recordings and mentions in tango histories. No current social media presence exists (typical for orchestras from the 1940s-1970s golden age). The orchestra continued under various configurations after Federico temporarily rejoined Caló in 1963, and later relocated to Rosario. Many of the compositions lack complete metadata (exact durations, full arranger credits). The MusicBrainz API fetch for complete discography returned HTTP 400, so only recordings verifiable through web search and Wikipedia are included. This orchestra should not duplicate the biographical content of the separate Domingo Federico musician post; this entry focuses on the ensemble’s formation, vocalists, recordings, and golden-age role.”
