Also known as: SolTango

About

Cuarteto SolTango, founded in 2008 in Munich, Germany, represents a contemporary chamber ensemble bridging traditional Argentine tango with classical concert music. The quartet comprises four accomplished classical musicians: pianist Martin Klett (founder, faculty at Leipzig and Detmold conservatories), violinist Thomas Reif (concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra), Dutch cellist Karel Bredenhorst, and Norwegian bandoneón player Andreas Rokseth. With a distinctive instrumentation of violin, cello, bandoneón, and piano, the ensemble interprets classic tango styles from the Golden Age—including Aníbal Troilo, Juan D’Arienzo, Lucio Demare, and Osvaldo Fresedo—through contemporary Tango Nuevo pioneers Osvaldo Pugliese and Horacio Salgán, with arrangements primarily by Martin Klett. Since their formation, they have performed extensively at major European classical festivals including Schleswig-Holstein and Oberstdorf. The quartet has released four studio albums: Cristal (2015), Sin Palabras (2019), Misión Tango (2021, featuring tributes to orchestral styles), and Poesía (2023, featuring vocalist Leonel Capitano). Their unique fusion of orchestral tango with chamber musicianship has earned critical recognition for bridging the gap between traditional tango orchestral sound and intimate concert performance traditions.
