Biography

Lidia Borda (born April 18, 1966, in San Martín, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine tango vocalist recognized as one of the finest modern interpreters of the genre. After studying fine art, music, and theatre, she dedicated herself entirely to tango singing in 1995, initially performing alongside her brother Luis Borda, a distinguished guitarist. Rolling Stone described her as “the best tango singer of the present,” praising her intimate vocal approach and respect for classical tango interpretation.

Borda’s repertoire encompasses both canonical works and lesser-known compositions, emphasizing poetic sensitivity and emotional depth. Her collaborations have included the acclaimed 2002 album “Tal Vez Será Su Voz” with pianist Diego Schissi and Orquesta El Arranque, featuring orchestral interpretations of 1940s waltzes. Her discography spans over two decades, including studio albums such as “Patio de Tango” (1999), “El Tango” (2008), “Atahualpa” (2014), and “El Hilo Invisible” (2022) with her brother Luis. She has toured extensively throughout Europe and the Americas, appearing at major festivals and cultural institutions including the Library of Alexandria opening ceremony in Egypt (2002).

Borda’s contributions to tango have been recognized with the Konex Merit Diploma (2005, 2015, 2025) and multiple Carlos Gardel Awards. She was declared an Illustrious Citizen of Buenos Aires in 2019, cementing her status as a vital voice in contemporary tango music and a preservationist of the genre’s rich interpretive traditions.
