Biography

Aquilino Enrique Rodríguez Ruiz (1901–1971) was an Argentine bandoneón player, composer, and orchestra director whose career spanned the golden age of tango. Born in Argentina (sources vary between Buenos Aires and La Plata), he began performing in silent-film cinemas and radio before establishing his own orchestra in 1936, dubbed “La orquesta de todos los ritmos” (The Orchestra of All Rhythms) for its diverse repertoire spanning tangos, waltzes, fox-trots, pasodobles, and rancheras. Contracted exclusively by Odeon Records for 34 years (1937–1971), Rodríguez recorded over 350 works, garnering substantial popularity throughout Latin America, particularly in Colombia. His most celebrated partnership was with vocalist Armando Moreno, with whom he recorded approximately 200 sides touring extensively across the Americas. Rodríguez composed numerous tango classics with lyrics by Enrique Cadícamo, including “Llorar por una mujer,” “En la buena y en la mala,” and “Son cosas del bandoneón,” establishing himself as a prolific and accessible composer whose work remained popular among dancers and tango devotees. He died in Medellín, Colombia, in 1971, leaving a legacy as a bridge between traditional orchestral tango and populist dance-floor sensibility.

Sources note: Birthplace records vary: some sources state Buenos Aires, others indicate La Plata, Argentina. All other biographical facts (1901-03-08 birth, 1971-09-04 death in Medellín, Colombia) are consistent across major sources.
